A territorial-style home whose owners wanted contemporary cabinetry without the room turning cold. The answer was one warm material used generously and one hard material used precisely.

Island at 40 x 84 in with two clear routes into the room, walnut-toned white oak on the base run, painted uppers, and a honed granite that hides desert dust.

It is modern and it still feels like our house. I did not think we could have both.
The part other firms leave out
What went wrong: handmade zellige varies by up to 3mm in length and our first set-out assumed a tighter tolerance. We re-drew the set-out on site with a wider joint before a single tile went up.
